Betawi, which Jakarta indigenous people named, from time to times, are
faced with challenge on conserving their culture within the scope of
urban growth toward a modern city. As their last effort of defense, it
is manifested through the development of cultural conservation area
located in Setu Babakan. Setu Babakan as”Betawi Conservation Settlement”
is expected to evolve eventually into tourism area, which is known as a
region that maintains the Betawi culture. It also expected to become
the area that can create and develop the creative industries of Jakarta,
and bring income for surrounding community.
The purpose of this study
is to see how far the process of creative industries in local community
around tourism areas Setu Babakan, and what are the efforts being made
to develop its potential industries. This paper will observe Setu
Babakan tourism area, to see the visitors and local people perceptions
about this tourism area, and to observe the pattern of Betawi dwelling
related to tourism and regulationsof the conservation of cultural area
Setu Babakan by the Government of DKI Jakarta.
